5 Reasons You Should Create Your Vision Board

February 12, 2013 by Debra Kasowski Leave a Comment

Vision boards are an incredible tool for gain clarity and having a visual queue for what you want in life right in front of you. In my co-authored bestselling book, GPS Your Best Life (TM): Charting Your Destination and Getting There in Style with Charmaine Hammond, we provide steps for you to get clear on what you really want in your life and help you map out steps to achieve what is on the board. Charmaine and I refer to this as putting the wheels on your vision board and shifting into drive.

“A vision without action is merely a dream. Action without vision just passes time.

Vision with action can change the world.” – Joel A. Barker

There are several reasons a person should make a vision board:

  1. Clarity  As you flip through images, pictures, and magazines, you identify what you like and dislike. You may resonate with pictures or be drawn to powerful words and phrases.
  2. Organize Your Thoughts  Suppose you create a vision board for a couple areas of your life. You can organized your thoughts and really focus in on areas you want to improve.
  3. Visual Reminder  When you have a visual reminder in front of you, you can look at it throughout the day to maintain focus on what it is you wish to be, do, or have. The vivid images will drawn you in and as you explain why you chose the images you did you will also discover your story. What you really want from your life!
  4. Emotional Connection  When you select images than you have an emotional connection to, you are more likely to be motivated in your pursuit of achieving the goals you have set for yourself.
  5. Create a plan in mind. By creating your vision of what you want for your life, you are making a plan. Starting to put the wheels in motion for ideas and the ways you will achieve them – the dreaded “how”. I will tell you this, when you know your why and what you want to accomplish, the how will show up!

Once you have created your vision, you can breakdown the steps to get to where you want to go. Now imagine doing 5 steps each day to get to where you want to go – 1825 action steps toward achievement and success! You cannot help but naturally be drawn to your success. Consistency and action are the keys! You must take action but also share your vision with others. You never know who is ready to give you that hand up!

Three Things You Must Know to GPS Your Best Life

November 19, 2012 by Debra Kasowski Leave a Comment

GPS Your Best life…The What and the Why Make the HOW possible!

Charmaine Hammond & Debra Kasowski

Have you ever been lost or wondered what you should do next?

“If you don’t know where you are going, how can you expect to get there?”  This is a quote by Basil S. Walsh.

The challenge for many people is knowing where they want to go, and what they want to have, be and achieve.

Imagine going to a mega mall that you have never been to, one where you could get lost in the parking lot, let alone in the mall. Amy and Emma had were overwhelmed by the size of the mall, and how they would find their vehicle after a day of shopping. As they entered the mall they noticed the “you are here” sign. Taking note of the current location was the first step in finding their car at the end of the day and navigating through the mall. This sign helped them Get Positioned for Success (GPS).

To GPS your best life, you must first know where you are, then visualize where you would like to be, and finally map out a plan to get you there. Here are a few tips to help you GPS your best life, and get there in style:

Knowing where you are:

Knowing where you are right now… not yesterday and not tomorrow… but right now, is the first step.  Take a few minutes to acknowledge your strengths, your values and what makes you who YOU are. Think about the quality of the relationships you are in (friendships, business collaborations, marriage or dating, family relationships, and your relationship with yourself). Consider the aspects of your life that are comfortable or better yet, going well. What about the areas where you feel off course?

Knowing where you are is the first step in getting in the driver’s seat to create your best life.

Where you’d like you go:

Once you have a sense of where you are, think about where you would like to go, or what you would like to do, be and have. Sometimes people discover their purpose (true calling), some were born with it, and in some cases, their purpose finds them. Your purpose or true calling is your WHY. To get greater clarity on your true calling, ask yourself these questions:

What revs my engine?

What do I love to do that feels effortless?

What do people acknowledge my strengths to be?

When I sit back and imagine my life as it could be, what does that look like?

When you are crystal CLEAR on the “what and the why”, the how begins to emerge

Mapping a plan to get there:

Sometimes people try to map their plan before they are CLEAR on the what and the why.  Mapping your plan is the how. When you know what your life is like now, and what you envision for future, you can map out how to achieve that reality.

Chunk it down, think about the actions in bite size pieces. Write down every possible action (don’t’ worry about the order of the steps) to make the goal a reality. Every day, choose five mini actions, we call this your Daily Five GPS steps. Little steps lead to consistent action and big results.

And along the journey remember to acknowledge your growth and successes, and share them with others.

How to Stay Focused in a World of Bright Shiny Objects – There Goes One NOW!

November 18, 2012 by Debra Kasowski Leave a Comment

Written by Debra Kasowski & Charmaine Hammond

Have you noticed all the bright shiny objects out there?

New opportunities are constantly being presented to us. I know you must have seen them. A flicker here. A flicker there. Some days I may think you have had whiplash due to turning your head and checking out all the new things you can try or learn. The world has some pretty exciting things going on and some people seem to be cruising to the top yet you might be wondering why you are not moving at the speed others people are. Perhaps you are focused on the wrong things.

You want to focus on what you want to happen versus what you do not want to happen. When you create a plan you plan with your best intentions but if you come from a place of scarcity and lack you lose focus on what your end goal may be. You may want to grab onto every opportunity that comes your way instead of looking at what is aligned with your values and plans. Create a daily plan that is focused on the tasks you need to complete to get closer to your end result. Imagine if you did 5 action steps Monday to Friday, 5 days a week, you would have completed 25 steps to getting closer to your goal. Without focus maybe you would complete 1-2 things in a week, your dedication and commitment may also waver as you wait for the “next big” thing to come along. The next big thing may be the one project you need to complete. Take some time to complete your incomplete projects or messes so you can focus on your brilliance! That’s where you shine!
